The sequel to Invisible Justice. Clint, Lexi, Sam and Leesha continue searching for answers regarding their super powers and the doctor who created them. Clint's painful flashes are leaving him with brute strength. He's the fourth in the group to realize his powers. Sam's heightened senses, Lexi's invisibility and Leesha's telekinesis round out the team searching for the doctor who did this.

The burning fire and resulting abilities leave them with a number of questions only one man can answer. Dr. Carl Blevins is the evil genius behind their powers, but approaching him may be somewhat treacherous. They've already rescued a mother and daughter that Blevins ordered kidnapped, then watched him kill the bumbling kidnappers in cold blood. The fact that the man has reinvented himself with a new name, face and business leads them to believe he is not yet ready to be discovered.

While they search for more clues to their identity, they find Jade, another teenager just like them. She shares the same birthday, and has gone through the painful transformation process, but has no evidence of an ability. Just one more mystery the team will have to solve as they work their way towards the answers they seek.

Brute Justice Justice Series Book 2 edition by Kim Jewell Children eBooks

Set against the corrupting power of medical and scientific knowledge when used for personal, egotistic gain, is the second in Kim Jewell's "Justice Series", in which the themes of friendship, the love of family, and a desire to do good in the world are all played out via the author's creative imagination. The teens in "Brute Justice" continue to use their superhero powers in the interest of mankind and in the interest of finding the whole truth regarding their births. They reveal their abilities to their respective parents, and come to information regarding other teens who were born on the same day as they were. The addition of Jade as one of those teens was engaging and the mystery surrounding her "pregnancy" served to keep the reader's attention, casting suspicion at once on Dr. Crain. Blevins' new identity is confirmed as the teens make progress in their quest to track him down, at the end, being offered assistance by the FBI in that search. The skills and teamwork of the teens regarding the tragedy occurring at the hospital were impressive. What was memorable was the fact that the family relationships between the teens and their parents were healthy, caring ones, and the camaraderie between the teens themselves a very positive example for YA and other audiences reading this book. The superhero/scifi elements were quite stimulating and exciting, but one also had a sense of the everyday issues affecting teenagers in ordinary living and that sense of realism also contributed to making this a very unique, enjoyable book. I look forward to reading more of this series by Ms. Jewell.

Brute Justice Justice Series Book 2 edition by Kim Jewell Children eBooks Reviews

This is 2nd book I read in the series. All the kids finding out the powers they had and chasing the evil doctor. Pretty we have young version of X-Men wannabes. Don't get me wrong. It was a good read but it was slow and climax was vague. Jewell was new writer and she'll get better. Like to see someone to come up new ideas instead of copycat someone's ideas. Same with vampires, everyone writing it since Bram Stoker invented it.
It took me all of five minutes after reading book one, "Invisible Justice" to buy this sequel! While I was completely drawn into the first story, I found this installment even more compelling. We learn more about each character, meet some new, and experience great plot twists and turns. I envy the author the ability to manage such a large cast of characters and events without confusing or overwhelming the reader. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for the next one!
This story has been better than I thought it would be. I actually got into it, just as something to read while I waited for an oil change and it has kept me reading long past that to this next book. "Brute Justice" does a solid job continuing the story. The characters are well flushed out and they carry a lot heart in the story. I'm going to do any spoiler alerts and leave it with you need to check it out. I think this is a keeper.
I was intrigued by Invisible Justice and looked forward to reading the second in the series. I didn't expect much, thinking that the series would be geared mostly for young teen readers. To my surprise, I found that I couldn't put these books down! This second book especially seems to have moved more to an adult feel that I would expect when discussing the thoughts and feelings of 17 year olds. It was not as predictable as the first, and toward the end there were several plot twists that I didn't see coming. Can't wait for the next one!
I loved the 1st book, which as of 7/22/11, was a Free download...so much so that I had to download this book, which is a great price at only 2.99. I love the series which reminds me of super heroes comic books but it is a fast paced action / sci-fi adventure. I'm looking forward to more books in this series. Hat's off to Kim Jewell for an excellent book for young & old alike.
It's cool that the group bonded and seem to be all heroes and that none of them used their extraordinary abilities to become juvenile delinquents...Sam does cheat on a test but none seemed to want to use their powers to take advantage of people. A refreshing story without the usual profanities.
Great series! We need more of what you have to offer Ms. Jewell. Don't ever doubt that. I'd like to quote Shae Ford another author I admire and feel inspired by " I truly meant it when I said that your imagination is more powerful than anything an author could write. There are some dimensions that simply can't be expressed in words." Ms Ford was responding to a message I posted on her blog about her books and this seems appropriate for you as well. I hope you don't mind. Your work does indeed spark my imagination. Thanks for taking the time and courage to actually put your work out there for us.
Kim Jewel definitely captures the readers imagination in this series. It is fast paced and well written. I just hope that even after 7 years (as of this writing) that she will finish the story as this book ends with unanswered questions and a cliff hanger. I don't care if the characters all get kiled off, just let your fans finish the story.
