Today is Christmas. After we ate the feast and cleaned up after ourselves, the family disappeared to watch sports or something noisy, and I had the pleasure of a tall glass of tea and a huge choice of new books on my Kindle. And of all the newbies on my carousel, I chose Casted - mostly for the pretty cover - and don't you smirk at me! I was only planning on trying out a new (to me) author, and I had no inkling that it is 481 PAGES LONG! The heroine, Jade, captured me in a few short pages, and I fell headlong into a fascinating tale about a terrified young girl who had seen her parents brutally murdered when she was only twelve years old, and had been running and hiding ever since. Oh, and by the way, she's a "spell caster," which is another word to call a witch, but her magic has been bound, and she's a victim waiting to happen. This is the author's first novel, written - or rather finished in 2213, but don't let that scare you. It's delicious and scary and romantic all at the same time, and moved along so fast, I hated to take a break for anything. (After six hours, my son delivered a lovely ham sandwich and fruit, bless his heart!) I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a long, long time. And it's FREE on Amazon, you lucky duck! The book kept my eyes posted. It's one of the books that you read that you don't want to end.
Will anxiously wait to find out what will happen next. I love the characters, especially Jade and hope they all remain in the upcoming books.
Action, adventure, torcher, madness, and hope all boil into a interesting story that you could get rapted up in, at least until it comes to the cliff hanger ending, however if you do not mind a cliff hanger this would be a good read.
This book has more than 8 references that line up to another popular author. This book written in 2013, the other published in 2014 the witches Deborah Harkness. The Harkness trilogy was probably written better than this, though I liked this , I could not help but see more than a bit of what could be called "using just a few to many key points happening in both these books". By Harkness, I am sad to say. Im no lawyer but if I was checking this out I would call foul play.
I did notice that some edits needed to be made, especially in the beginning. That being said, I read to get away from reality and this book kept me interested. I didn't want to put it down and immediately bought the 2nd one as soon as I finished the first. Those who've left reviews criticizing it and saying how horrible it is are entitled to their freedom of speech and opinions but I disagree with them. I liked the characters and I liked the story line. Who cares if some of the basic concepts (such as the love interests) are similar to other books? There were some very original ideas and I very much enjoyed this book (and the next.) I wondered where the writer got the names from but if those are the names that came to her for her characters, so be it. At least it was easy for me to keep track of who was who.
I thought Casted was a pretty good story. Our heroine Jade is bound, made to forget her past and her gifts to protect her from some pretty nasty people, their leader in particular. She has learned to hide and run since an early age--well many other reviews cover her beginnings and trials quite well. And yes, there are a few spelling and grammar errors, but not that many and not 'bad enough' to confuse the story.
The story does not have what I consider a 'clean' ending, but has one of those cliffhangers I do not really care for (they are tumbling into nothingness). Fortunately, I was able to get book 2 for free during a promotion so I can get back into Jade's story soon. And just saying I want to read book 2 says I enjoyed the first book a lot. )

As one of Sonya’s first books you can see where she got her start writing action scenes. Though Casted is not as suspenseful as most of the books in her Six series end up being, it’s still full of tension, action, and even some romance. I found most of the characters fun and very likeable. This book moves along at a pretty fast pace and never left me bored or wondering when something exciting was going to happen. The only warning that I can give is that it ends on a cliff-hanger and you’ll probably want to have Spelled on hand before reaching the end of Casted.
